The academic year for TLF students at H-FARM International School in Italy will start tomorrow, while at The Island Private School in Cyprus it begins on September 2. For some students, this means returning to a familiar school; for the new scholars, it is the beginning of their first school days in a new country.

Here is a look back at the final days of the TLF summer camp in Paphos.

Academic Programme

At the beginning of the week, Professor Sergey Lando, a member of the TLF Advisory Board, joined the camp. Under his guidance, the younger group studied graphs and invariants, while the older students explored Hurwitz numbers, which connect combinatorial problems with geometry and number theory.

The scholars also attended lectures by Dmitry Mineev, a PhD researcher in Computer Science at Bar-Ilan University. For the younger group, he spoke about group theory and its applications to the study of symmetry. With the older students, he explored the permutahedron — a geometric object related to permutations.

Alongside the lectures, the students continued working in their chosen academic tracks: solving problems, discussing the topics they had covered with their teachers and completing their projects.

Time Outside the Classroom

At the same time, we tried to maintain a balance between the intensive academic programme and time to relax. The students continued going to the sea in the mornings, while several evenings turned into small music sessions, with students playing the guitar and singing familiar songs together.

One of the highlights of the week was a movie night. A whole cinema hall was rented for the students, and they watched Project Hail Mary, a science-fiction film about a space mission and an attempt to save Earth.

The Closing Ceremony

To mark the end of the camp, all students received certificates and small gifts from TLF — notebooks and stickers.

Students who earned the highest number of points in the academic track, as well as the winners of various activities, received additional TLF gifts, including T-shirts and pens.

With that, TLF Camp came to an end. The new scholars are now heading into the academic year at their partner schools, with new classes, projects and research ahead.

Congratulations to all our new scholars, and we wish you a successful start to the academic year!
